Valerie Bloom was born in Clarendon, Jamaica in 1956.
She moved to England in 1979 and currently lives in Kent.
She is a poet and novelist who writes poems and stories for children, conducts writing courses and visits schools to share her experiences and talent in writing because she enjoys teaching children.
She also edits a number of collections and her poems have been published in more than 200 anthologies.
She was appointed as Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2008.
